This is an anonymous override from a senior member of the Water Resources Board. I am bypassing standard clearance protocols because the citizens of Ares Prime deserve to hear the unfiltered truth.

For years, the Colonial Council has classified the long-range resource projections under the banner of “maintaining public confidence.” Tonight, that ends.

Here are the numbers we have been sitting on:

At the current population growth trajectory—still hovering near 3.8 percent annually despite voluntary guidelines—our polar ice reserves will be insufficient to sustain baseline needs in fifteen Martian years or less. That is not a worst-case scenario. That is the median projection, assuming no major dust events, no equipment failures, and perfect efficiency in every recycler chain.

Hydroponic and aeroponic caloric scaling presents an even grimmer horizon. Current expansion plans—ambitious as they are—cannot keep pace with demand beyond a total population of eighteen million. Beyond that threshold, per-capita caloric availability begins an irreversible decline unless radical new techniques are deployed immediately. We have models for vertical mega-farms in the deepest lava tubes, for genetically engineered super-crops, for asteroid ice towing—but none of these are funded at scale. None are scheduled to come online before the crunch hits.

The Council’s internal debates have now shifted from encouragement to coercion.
