As I write this I’m 48 hours away from heading over to the Jacob J. Javits Center to help set up our booths for New York Comic Con. Yes, that’s correct, I said booths because Del Rey, Spectra, and Villard graphic novels go all out for NYCC. We even invited WORD Brooklyn to set up shop and sell our books right in our booth! We’ll have plenty of space in aisle 2200, plenty of great books to look through, plenty of authors on hand to meet and greet, and plenty of free stuff to give away. Since I’m the Star Wars guy at Suvudu, I’m going to fill you in on what we’re offering from that galaxy far, far, away….
I’m so excited that New York Times best selling authors J. W. Rinzler and Joe Schreiber will both be making scheduled appearances on Saturday and Sunday to support their Del Rey Star Wars books.
J. W. Rinzler, executive editor at Lucasfilm Ltd., will attend the show in support of his upcoming behind the scenes masterpiece The Making of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. The 372 page book is loaded with over 1200 images and details every aspect of the making of this landmark film. As a special bonus for attendees of NYCC we have allowed WORD to sell the book at the convention in advance of its book date. It’s not available anywhere else yet. Attendees who purchase the book will also receive a beautiful full color poster of the book’s cover. The posters are individually numbered and limited to 150 (pre-order here). Mr. Rinzler will be signing at our booth, #2223, on Saturday from 1:00-2:00 and Sunday from 1:30-2:30. In addition, Mr. Rinzler will host a panel on Sunday in room 1A22 from 12:00-1:00 in which he will discuss the making of the book and the movie. Attendees will be able to enter a raffle for a free copy of the book at the end of the panel and a free copy of the Star Wars: Knight Errant issue 0 comic book will be given away on a first come, first served basis (see below).
Del Rey staffers hand number posters in preparation for NYCC.
Joe Schreiber is supporting the upcoming paperback release of Star Wars: Death Troopers as well as the upcoming hardcover release of Star Wars: Red Harvest. Mr. Schreiber will be signing books at booth #2223 on Saturday from 12:00-1:00 and Sunday from 2:00-3:00. We will be giving away free copies of the paperback edition of Star Wars: Death Troopers as well as a special double sided poster featuring the cover of Star Wars: Red Harvest on one side and the cover of the upcoming book Star Wars: The Old Republic: Deceived by Paul S. Kemp on the other side. Posters are limited and will be given away on a first come first served basis during Mr. Schreiber’s signings.
Throughout the weekend we will also be giving away free paperback copies of Star Wars: The Fate of the Jedi: Outcast by Aaron Allston along with some other surprise goodies.
Free copies of the special Star Wars: Knight Errant issue 0 comic book Del Rey created in partnership with Dark Horse Comics will be given away on a first come first served basis to those attending The Making of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back panel on Sunday in room 1A22 at 12:00.
