Star Wars

Happy Birthday, George Lucas!

Happy Birthday, George Lucas!

That’s right! The father of Star Wars (to not even mention he’s the guy – or one of the guys – behind Indiana Jones, Red Tails, THX1138 and American Graffiti - a pretty good movie despite the noticeable lack of snakes or lightsabers) is 69 years-old today. Wow – I can’t believe it! (Then again, I can’t believe I’m over 40… I was 21 yesterday, I swear.) Time does indeed fly, and you don’t even need a wormhole or faster than light travel.

George Lucas and his creations have been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. One of my very earliest memories is of finding a Darth Vader action figure figure under the Christmas tree, and when I saw a Darth Vader action figure, I mean this one, so we’re talking about a heck of a long time. Lucas catches flack from people sometimes about this or that part of the movies (and I’m as guilty as anyone), but I truly cannot imagine a life without Star Wars or Indiana Jones. Lucas gave us these stories that became huge parts of our lives. I’m incredibly thankful.

Think about it: No Han and Chewbacca, Luke, Leia, C3PO and R2. It’s like thinking about a life without the color blue, or something. It’s just impossible for me to understand. These characters have been like friends to me all of my life, and a given that they’ve always been there and always will be, long after Lucas – and you and I – are long gone. The Greeks had their Gods, heroes, and demi-gods. We’ve got Star Wars.

Thanks, George. May the Force be with you. Always.
