Welcome back to the Star Wars HoloNet Digest, a weekly feature where I bring you a recap of the latest news from the world of Star Wars. Whether it’s an Episode VII announcement or a noteworthy author interview, you’ll find it here. Let’s check the HoloNet and see what happened in the past two weeks.

It’s been a relatively quiet period for Episode VII information, although we do have a few tidbits for you in this edition of the HoloNet Digest. On March 20, Disney announced that it had signed a deal with the IMAX Corporation to release six of its upcoming movies in IMAX format. Episode VII was among those six titles. J.J. Abrams has been critical of IMAX in the past, so this was a bit of a surprise. That being said, it’s possible that the movie will be shot in regular format and converted to IMAX in post-production. On a related note, on March 28, Andrew Bikichky, a cameraman based in L.A., tweeted two photos of the 35mm custom Panavision Panaflex XL film cameras that Abrams will use for the production.

Disney’s Star Wars Weekends just got a whole lot bigger, as Mark Hamill will be appearing at the fourth weekend (June 6-8). Hamill, who is definitely not going to be associated with any other Star Wars event in the next few years, has been a very popular guest at previous Star Wars conventions, so fans should line up early for the Legends of the Force motorcade and the talk show in which he will appear. Who knows what Hamill will be talking about when he takes the stage?

The Star Wars literature front continues to hum along even without any novels on the upcoming release calendar. First, The Official Star Wars Blog posted more unpublished content from Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare in the sixth edition of its “author’s cut” series. These short stories, biographies, profiles, and speech excerpts were cut from the book before publication for various reasons, but Del Rey and Lucasfilm are making this extra material available anyway. The sixth post in the author’s cut series features material related to the planet Naboo and the events of The Phantom Menace. Check it out if you enjoyed The Essential Guide to Warfare.

Elsewhere in the Expanded Universe … uh, universe, Del Rey has posted more Chris Trevas art for the upcoming two-part Star Wars Insider short story “Blade Squadron.” The story, which “chronicles the story of an elite squad of rebel B-wing pilots on a suicide mission during the Battle of Endor,” will be written by David J. Williams and Mark S. Williams, and it will appear in Insider issues 149 and 150.

    Eric,

Why haven’t you answered my previous question on when there might be more Star Wars books coming out, including continuation of Into the Void?
