Peter Mayhew Will Reprise Chewbacca Role in ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’

Scoundrels_Chewbacca2Multiple sources online are reporting that Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew will be returning for Star Wars: Episode VII following the publication of an exclusive by The Hollywood Reporter.

THR says that “sources” have told them that Mayhew has committed to the film, which would probably make sense given that it’s all but (officially) confirmed that Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, and R2-D2 (but perhaps not Kenny Baker – there’s not been much said about him) have signed on. Mayhew hasn’t made any statements, but has recently had to cancel a May appearance due to “filming”. LucasFilm/Disney remains tight-lipped regarding the return of the original cast, except to say that “familiar faces” will be returning to the film, which takes place 30 years after Episode VI. That being said, Fisher has said she is returning, and Hamill’s longtime friend Robert Englund said that Hamill is reprising his role as Luke Skywalker. (And then there was the R2 pic Abrams and crew shared on Twitter…)

While I don’t think that anyone has really had any doubts that Chewbacca would be in the film, there are some who have wondered whether health issues would keep Mayhew from returning to the role. However, it would appear that the double knee surgery the actor had last year seems to have done the trick.

While this sounds like it’s pretty much a done deal, I hasten to remind readers that nothing is set in stone until we hear it from Lucasfilm and/or Disney!

Am I wrong or did Chewbacca die in Vector Prime, 25 years after Return of the Jedi ? So 5 years before the supposed time frame of Episode VII ? What will happen to the EU we all know and love ?
