Star Wars writer, historian and translator Abel G. Peña waded into Reddit’s wonderful Star Wars subreddit a few days ago to talk Expanded Universe fiction, the new movies and much more. Peña opined on the rumored Boba Fett movie, among many other matters. I love his take on Fett’s “face”.
Here’s an excerpt:
Who would you personally like to see cast as Boba Fett if they do a spin off movie as rumored?
Hmm. I don’t know what specific actor should play Boba, though I suppose Daniel Logan would make sense and it would be kinda neat. But if/when such a spinoff film should come out, I think he should definitely look like the dude he’s cloned from. That’s a no-brainer. But, honestly, I’ve always agreed with Andy Mangels’ characterization of the bounty hunter, when he has him say “This IS my face” while wearing his helmet. I think it was Kersh that said he would never have removed Darth Vader’s mask if he was doing Return of the Jedi, and that when that happened, and Vader was humanized, all the mystique that people had projected onto him was transferred to Boba. I think the masks of those characters still are what people most identify with those characters, with their souls, and I wouldn’t be surprised if a Boba Fett movie didn’t show his face, or only very briefly.
