Every week, I’ll be bringing you a comic book cover that I feel eclipses others out there—to the point I might just have to own it!
The BadAss Comic Book Cover for this week is for The Star Wars #2. Why do I love this cover? It’s a Ralph McQuarrie cover, for one! The artist responsible for the look and feel of Star Wars is one of the most important artists of all time. At least from a geek culture point of view. And I love this piece of art. It shows heroes we have come to love before costume and make-up got to them for live action shooting. It shows a Death Star that is every bit as cool as the movie version. And I particularly love the use of light here, with the suns and stars in the backdrop casting shadows past the forefront. A beautiful cover reminding us all of the glory of stars. J.J. Abrams, take note!
