I think that makes more sense than reading by event chronology (although that can be fun, too). But reading in publication sequence you a truer sense of the development of "Star Wars". Besides that, it is also a lot more predictable. If you were to start reading by chronology right now, within a few months you'd already be flipping back and forth in the timeline anyway as new material is being released.
