Being a lifelong Star Wars fan, I always knew the novels were out there. One of my fondest memories as a teenager was the event that was the release of "Shadows of the Empire." I so wanted to read it, but I just couldn't afford it at the time, but I always told myself, "One day." Well, shoot across a couple of decades later and I finally decided that it was time to delve into the world of the EU. I started with the Darth Bane trilogy, which was the oldest story chronologically at the time. (I decided I wanted to read the novels "in order.") And, I haven't stopped since; that was a couple of years ago. Right now, I'm slowly approaching "A New Hope," and before I know it, I'll get to "Shadows of the Empire" and finally get to see what the hub-bub was about it.

Thanks for writing this. I love reading about how other people fell in love with Star Wars and the EU. I have a similar story in the fact that I've been a fan of the movies since I was young but never took my fandom to the next level. I'd see the books in book stores and even bought a couple (Episode 1 novel, Rouge Planet) but never got into them completely. I figured I'd get to them eventually but the whole thing seemed overwhelming. Then a couple years ago, I found Heir to the Empire on cassette. I was hooked. I went from a casual fan of the movies to falling in love with Star Wars as a whole. I finally discovered what all these fans going to conventions or talking with their buddies had already discovered. It wasn't long after that, that I stumbled upon my first ForceCast. If those guys don't get you excited for all things Star Wars, nothing will! I've now worked my way through a majority of novels thanks to my Kindle and audio books. I love listening to a well done Star Wars audio book almost as much as reading them. One of my local book stores is participating in Star Wars Reads Day, complete with appearances by the 501st. I'm taking my 4 year old and can't wait to see the look on his face. He's already so excited.

Several years ago, i only got some of the Star Wars guides, such as the Essential Guide to Aliens and the Complete visual Dictionary, but that all changed when a got the Essential Guide to the Force. i went to Barnes and Noble one day after I finished reading the Essential Guide to the Force. I was looking over the Star Wars books and a title caught my eye: Darth Bane: Rule of Two. I remembered reading that in the Essential Guide to the Force and it got me interested. So, i convinced my mom to let her by it for me.

When I got home I sat down and started reading it (I wasn't a big reader at the time). IT WAS AMAZING!!! i realized that it was the second book in a trilogy so i had to go and get the first one. I rad that and later onto the Republic Commando books. Overall, I have now read 48 (almost 49. Finishing up X-Wing Starfighters of Adumar by Aaron Allston) and have 101 novels. I have read almost the whole X-Wing series, the entire Legacy of the Force series, Fate of the Jedi series and many more. I'm staring the New Jedi Order series after X-Wing: Mercy Kill (i like jumping around).

Star Wars Novels has really impacted my life. They got reading when my mom never could get me to read (though she now regrets it since now the only thing i buy is star wars novels). it also helped my English school work. i use to suck at English class, but Star Wars has really helped my reading and writing. I use to Struggle, but now I'm in honors English and just wrote a star wars parody that left my teacher speechless. Star Wars is one of the best things that ever happened to be. I now have a Star Wars binder with information I have gathered after reading the novels and other works. It impresses the ladies :), no lie! Thanks for reading!
