‘Star Wars 1313′: What We Know Now

LucasArts.com___Star_Wars_1313_large_largeBy now, most of you will have heard about Star Wars 1313, the newly announced Star Wars video game from LucasArts. Rumors started flying around the net weeks ago when it was discovered that the domain StarWars1313.com had been purchased by LucasArts, and with them speculation that a new film or movie property centering on Boba Fett would be forthcoming.

Yesterday, LucasArts put an end to much of the speculation with the release of a press release describing Star Wars 1313 as an upcoming cinematic third-person action game. The 1313 of the title refers to the infamous criminal underground of Coruscant, through which players will guide an as-yet unnamed bounty hunter’s attempt to unravel a criminal conspiracy. The game is apparently going to be “Mature” and aimed at older players. Beyond that, we know very little – not that this should stop us from speculating anyway!

If we can assume the Tie Fighters seen in the conceptual art for the game represents the finished project, then it’s a safe bet that Star Wars 1313 will be set in the Rebellion era. That’s a good move if they’re hoping to keep the attention of older Star Wars fans. While it is true that there are plenty of older fans who enjoy the other eras of the saga, it’s a safe bet that most of them at least enjoy the Rebellion era if not prefer it.

What about those Boba Fett rumors? I’m not convinced that we can put them to bed yet. Note in the the image that we can’t see the protagonist’s face. Could it be that of Temuera Morrison, the actor who portrayed Jango Fett in Clone Wars? As you will undoubtedly already know, Boba Fett is Jango’s clone. Further, Morrison has contributed work to several other Star Wars video games, some of which is uncredited. While his IMDB page doesn’t list 1313, it isn’t out of the realm of the possible that LucasArts could keep this information from being listed. Finally, Boba Fett actually used the alias “CT-1313″ in Elizabeth Hand’s Clone Wars novel Boba Fett: Maze of Deception.

We won’t know more about Star Wars 1313 until its official unveiling at E3 next week, but knowing LucasArts’ penchant for suspense-building roll-outs, we may have even more questions!
