New is fun. New is exciting. New is a chance to see the familiar in a different light. I get excited when we decide to give a paperback edition of a book a different cover from the hardcover. And when that paperback edition is for a Star Wars novel, well my excitement gets kicked into hyperdrive.
That is the case with the paperback edition of Star Wars: Choices of One. The New York Times bestselling hardcover will feature a new cover for the paperback edition. The new cover was designed specifically by Scott Biel for the paperback format and features a new painting of Mara Jade by acclaimed artist Daryl Mandryk.
When I asked Scott about working with Daryl he had this to say, “Daryl gave us a very stunning piece and really went all out. We weren’t sure what to have in the background so when he gave us the army of stormtroopers with the Star Destroyer hovering above them, I was pleasantly surprised. You can tell when an artist really loves what they are working on, and Daryl really loves Star Wars.”
Star Wars: Choices of One was published earlier this year in hardcover and eBook formats. The novel, by New York Times bestselling author Timothy Zahn, features many classic movie characters such as Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo along with Expanded Universe favorites like the Emperor’s Hand, Mara Jade. They all take part in this adventure set between the events seen in the original Star Wars film and it’s sequel, The Empire Strikes Back.
Here is a brief blurb:
The fate of the Rebellion rests on Luke Skywalker’s next move.
But have the rebels entered a safe harbor or a death trap?
Eight months after the Battle of Yavin, the Rebellion is in desperate need of a new base. So when Governor Ferrouz of Candoras Sector proposes an alliance, offering the Rebels sanctuary in return for protection against the alien warlord Nuso Esva, Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewie are sent to evaluate the deal.
Mara Jade, the Emperor’s Hand, is also heading for Candoras, along with the five renegade stormtroopers known as the Hand of Judgment. Their mission: to punish Ferrouz’s treason and smash the Rebels for good.
But in this treacherous game of betrayals within betrayals, a wild card is waiting to be played.
