In addition to the big news announced about Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi: Apocalypse, the title for the final book in the nine book series, and the exciting news about Aaron Allston writing a new Wraith Squadron novel Del Rey had a few other announcements worth repeating.

Del Rey is publishing tie-in novels for the eagerly anticipated MMORPG game Star Wars: The Old Republic from BioWare and LucasArts. The first book, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Fatal Alliance, by Sean Williams hit the New York Times best seller list and has been receiving rave reviews from fans. Next spring we follow up with a second book, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Deceived, by Paul S. Kemp. Del Rey announced at Star Wars Celebration V that Drew Karpyshyn, one of the lead writers of the game and author of the popular Darth Bane series of novels will write a third book in the Old Republic series.

Next summer will see the publication of a new Star Wars novel by author Timothy Zahn. Zahn is forever popular with fans due to his Thrawn trilogy that was published nearly twenty years ago. The new novel, Star Wars: Hand of Judgement, will follow the events of Star Wars: Allegiance and feature an appearance by Thrawn. Del Rey is busy readying plans to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of Star Wars: Heir to the Empire next year as well. 2011 will be a huge year for Tim Zahn fans.

James Luceno’s planned Darth Plagueis is confirmed. Publishing date to come for that one.

Dash Rendar will be a central character and Han Solo will appear in the currently in the works novel from authors Michael Reaves and Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff. The book is currently working under the title Star Wars: Holostar, although that name is expected to change.

Alex Irvine is writing a novel featuring Nomi Sunrider and set in the time of the ancient Jedi Knights.

Author Jeff Grubb is writing a stand alone novel featuring the Hutts.

In non-fiction news, summer 2011 will see the publication of a brand new Essential Guide book. Jason Fry, co-author of the popular Star Wars: The Essential Atlas, is hard at work writing Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare.

Pablo Hidalgo is writing Star Wars: The Essential Readers Companion. The book will over brief synopsis and behind the scenes information about all of the novels, short stories, ebooks, and come comic book material. Publication is planned for spring 2012.

And yes, there is a third installment in the popular Essential Guide to Characters coming. Del Rey editor Erich Schoeneweiss and author Dan Wallace are in discussions about the direction of the new book.

Star Wars fans have a lot to look forward to over the next couple of years from Del Rey.
