STAR WARS News – APOCALYPSE is coming

STAR WARS News – APOCALYPSE is coming

It has been a busy month for Del Rey in the Star Wars universe. We were at San Diego Comic Con in full Force (pun intended!) and then in Orlando a few weeks later for the amazing Star Wars Celebration V convention. SWCV might just have been the best convention I’ve ever been to, aside from the fact that Orlando in August is Mustafar hot. I’m back and settled in again and I figured I should bring you up to date on some exciting news announced at the conventions. I don’t know if it gets any more exciting then the announcement of the final title in the New York Times best selling series Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi.

Del Rey editor at large Shelly Shapiro announced to a large panel crowd at SWCV that the last book in the Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi series would be titled Apocalypse. No details were unveiled about the upcoming book from Troy Denning, but the title itself already has fans eager with anticipation. Apocalypse is due to hit shelves in November 2011 and will follow Conviction by Aaron Allston, May 2011, and Ascension by Christie Golden, August 2011.

Fate of the Jedi launches a huge story arc, with heroic roles for the galaxy’s most beloved characters—Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa Solo, and their surviving children, Ben Skywalker and Jaina Solo. While Luke and Ben set off on the journey of a lifetime—of discovery and hardship, of obstacles and victories—the others remain in more familiar territory, dealing with the aftermath of the civil war that rocked the galaxy in the Legacy of the Force.

It has been two years since the death of Darth Caedus. Chief of State Natasi Daala has ushered the Galactic Alliance into a time of unprecedented calm, and now the entire galaxy stands poised to freely embrace the same enduring peace that Jacen Solo once sought to impose as a Sith Lord.

In this new era, Luke Skywalker finds himself battling control of the very order he founded. After Jacen’s fall to the dark side, much of the galaxy sees Jedi Knights as rogue soldiers too dangerous and unstable to leave unfettered. It is a view shared by Chief Daala, who has sworn to bring the order under government control—or disband it entirely.

But the greatest threat to the Jedi remains unseen, a faceless menace even more lethal and insidious than the Sith who have plagued the Jedi for millennia. Awakened by Jacen Solo during his five-year odyssey, this hidden peril is reaching out from the darkest corner of the galaxy, assaulting Jedi Knights in ways that even Luke has yet to perceive—but which he must quickly thwart if he is to have any hope of redeeming the New Jedi Order.

  1. This series started out slow, but I’m starting to like where the direction it’s taken in the last couple of books. So I’m excited to see what the last book will bring! :)

I am enjoying this series. However I am not sure I like the title of the last book. It is somewhat ominous.
I know beloved characters pass om – witness Chewie in the NJO – but I don’t have to like it.:(
So here’s hoping few of the most beloved do not pass on in this book.

  3. Cal Jedi says:

I also love this series. I hope that Nataasi Daala leaves office. I wonder if Luke will defeat all the Sith seeing how in the Legacy comic books the Sith haven’t really been around in awhile.

  4. Anthony says:
